Not Sleeping Well? This could effect your health

Sleep is a hugely important facet of health and wellbeing in both body and mind, according to an expert.
Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, a doctor giving advice on US News, explained that a good night`s sleep is, first and foremost, important for ``daily functioning``, with a lack of rest resulting in irritability and under-performance at work and - for the younger audience - school.
However, it can also result in a catch-22 situation where depression and anxiety can arise, which in turn restricts the amount of sleep a person gets, she added.
Furthermore, chronic insomnia is a problem which can seriously affect the immune system, Ms Kiecolt-Glaser added, with stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, periodontal disease and general functional decline all attributed to this problem.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, sleepwalking is also a major issue for those unable to get a good level of sleep in bed each night, with the prevalence of sleepwalking in the US estimated to be between one and 15 per cent of the general population.
