Metabolic Syndrome Screening

In March 2008 Apple Wellbeing visited a world leader in the manufacture of safety equipment to carry out a series of health screenings, consultancies and workshops giving advice and supporting literature along the way.

On completion of these initiatives Apple Wellbeing put together a company trend analysis report drawing comparisons in results to the rest of the tested UK population in order for them to see how the health of the company shapes up to other companies.

In addition to this Apple Wellbeing identified the individuals who were likely to suffer with Metabolic Syndrome or poor lung function (insurance requirement) for further screening.

Metabolic Syndrome is described as having 3 out of 4 of large hip to waist ratio, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes (high blood sugar) and is a major contributing factor to cardiovascular disease.

In September 2008 Apple Wellbeing carried out their Metabolic Syndrome screening process and found that there had been significant improvements in individuals results.

  • 32% improvement in diastolic hypertension
  • 23% improvement in systolic hypertension
  • 18% improvement in individuals with both high diastolic and systolic blood pressures
  • 9% improvement in hip / waist ratio
  • 18% improvement in individuals carrying out less than 3 hours exercise / week
  • 9% improvement in high blood sugar levels
  • 32% improvement in individuals suffering from cholesterol greater than 6 mmol/l
  • 5% improvement in poor lung function

The consequences of these results are that many individuals have massively reduced their risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease.
