Health and Safety Policy

RE: Health Assessments conducted by Apple Wellbeing

This policy was constructed after a thorough risk assessment, as recommended by the Health and Safety Executive via their website 28/02/07 and in accordance with the following laws; Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (risk assessment), Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996, Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977.

During all health assessments all necessary precautions are taken to ensure the safety of both the person being assessed and the wellbeing member of staff performing the assessment.

Prior to all tests the person to be screened is asked a number of questions about their health history which are used to assess any tests which may have a heightened risk of injury or discomfort for the assessed individual. If a situation arises where the individual may have increased risk of injury/discomfort then suitable modifications to the relevant testing protocols are made.

A full assessment includes a number of noninvasive tests (height/weight/hip/waist measurements, blood pressure, body fat analysis, strength measurement, lung function testing, flexibility testing). Each assessor has a comprehensive and up to date knowledge of all the protocols involved in terms of maintaining safety and also accuracy.

In relation to testing requiring blood samples (blood sugar and blood cholesterol), all those assessors performing these tests have been certified by Fitech Fitness Technology Company. This ensures that the tests are carried out to a standard that is safe and accurate. Necessary precautions are taken to prevent spread of blood born disease; use of protective examination gloves, samples, contaminated items and sharps disposed of according to procedures in place for biohazard materials.

Before tests requiring a blood sample a period of fasting is required in order to maintain testing validity. Therefore, precautions are taken that as soon as testing is complete, the person being assessed has the opportunity to raise their blood glucose levels should they feel it necessary.
